Why Volunteer with DCFA?

  • Make a Real Difference: Every hour you give helps us redistribute surplus food to families in need.
  • Gain Valuable Skills: Improve your CV with experience in logistics, teamwork, community outreach, and food safety.
  • Be Part of Something Bigger: DCFA has no employees—we rely entirely on our dedicated volunteers. Your time and effort are the backbone of our mission.

Your Commitment

To ensure smooth operations and proper training, we ask for a regular commitment of at least 4 hours per week. This consistency helps us maintain high standards and deliver reliable support to those who need it most.
We operate 7 days a week, from early morning to late evening, so there’s always a time slot to suit your schedule.

Alan

Alan works here because he wants to. Working with the community is humbling and poverty is rife and buried within Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall.

I work here because I've been doing voluntary work since I was seventeen. In Sikhism we have a service that we provide to communities that we call langarsewa. With all the food provided by the community cooked and going back into the community to those that need it. DCFA is doing just this with food but not the cooking.

It makes me happy to work here because you put yourselves in their shoes you know how it feels when no one provides or helps or listens to you. I hope I make a difference to people's lives especially to kids and older people who are in need, especially the kids.

Volunteering with DCFA has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. Using my existing professional skills, I've been able to contribute meaningfully to the administrative, organisational, social media, and website functions, so important for any charity. Being part of this passionate community makes me feel useful and valued, knowing that my efforts support a brilliant cause. I encourage anyone looking to make a difference to join us. It's a fantastic opportunity to use your skills, whatever they may be, and be part of a supportive team, contributing to a mission that truly matters.
