About Us

Devon and Cornwall Food Action (DCFA) is a registered charity (Charity Number 1155313) established in 2010 to combat food poverty.

The harsh reality is that food insecurity is an ongoing struggle for many in the UK. Behind every statistic is a story of a family, an individual, or a child facing uncertainty about their next meal. Recent statistics reveal that the number of people in food-insecure households rose to 7.2 million in 2022/23, an increase of 2.5 million people since 2021/22. (Source: commonslibrary.parliament.uk) This alarming trend underscores the importance of our work and the need for continued support.

On our website, you can delve into how we tackle food insecurity through our innovative food programme and strategic partnerships. Together, we can make a tangible difference and ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food.

Our Partners

Devon and Cornwall Food Action has built strong partnerships with major supermarket chains, independent food suppliers, and manufacturers. Thanks to these relationships, we regularly source surplus produce and goods perfectly fit for consumption, and then redistribute them to those in need.

Our Impact

Every day across Devon and Cornwall, tonnes of perfectly edible food are thrown away—not because it’s unsafe, but simply because it no longer meets the strict standards of commercial sale. Without Devon and Cornwall Food Action (DCFA), much of this food would end up in landfill, contributing to the growing issues of food waste and environmental harm.

But DCFA is changing that....

By rescuing surplus food from supermarkets, wholesalers, and producers, DCFA gives it a new purpose. Instead of being wasted, this food is redistributed to individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet. It’s a practical, compassionate response to food insecurity—ensuring that good food reaches those who need it most.

Beyond the Plate: A Greener Future.

And the benefits go far beyond the dinner table. Every crate of food saved from landfill helps reduce harmful emissions and supports a more sustainable food system. In 2024 alone, DCFA diverted hundreds of tonnes of food from waste, making a real difference to the region’s environmental footprint.

At the heart of DCFA’s work is community.

A dedicated team of volunteers—people from all walks of life—give their time to collect, sort, pack, and deliver food. They’re not just providing supplies; they’re offering support, connection, and kindness. For many, volunteering with DCFA is a way to give back, meet others, and be part of something meaningful.

Feeding People, Fueling Change.

Devon and Cornwall Food Action isn’t just about feeding people—it’s about feeding change. It’s a powerful example of what can happen when a community comes together to say: no one should go hungry, and no good food should go to waste.

Redistributing Surplus, Strengthening Communities

Our main hub, located in North Plymouth, sits at the heart of our operations. Thanks to our amazing volunteers, we effectively redistribute surplus food to those who need it most. Furthermore, we collaborate with local organisations like Devon & Cornwall Police, Frontline Veterans Support, and community organisations to ensure produce reaches individuals and families identified as needing assistance. Additionally, we provide direct support at our hub and through pop-up events across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall.

Therefore, join Devon and Cornwall Food Action in our mission to make a difference and end food poverty!
